Indore (MP), January 29: An auto-rickshaw driver was arrested for the alleged murder of a 58-year-old police inspector, Prabhat Narayan Chaturvedi, who was posted at the Rustamji Armed Police Training College (RAPTC) in Indore. The accused has been identified as 27-year-old Devendra Burasi.
According to the report, the incident occurred on the night of January 23-24, when Inspector Chaturvedi hired an auto to take him to a bus stop. During the ride, the two consumed alcohol together, which led to a dispute. The situation escalated, and the auto driver reportedly attacked the inspector in a fit of rage, ultimately killing him.
The inspector’s family had filed a missing report at Vijaynagar police station, prompting an investigation. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abhinay Vishwakarma said that on January 24, authorities received information about a body found in front of Phoenix Mall, under the jurisdiction of Khajrana police station. A forensic team was called to the scene, and the initial investigation suggested the body had been discarded at the location after the murder.
Further investigation revealed that the victim was Inspector Chaturvedi, who had been planning to travel to Panna district following the recent death of his mother. Police began tracking his movements, using CCTV footage that showed him near a wine shop in Pardeshipura, where he was seen taking an auto. The authorities then traced the vehicle and arrested the driver, Devendra Burasi.
During questioning, Burasi confessed to the crime, explaining that after consuming alcohol with the inspector, they had a heated argument. In a fit of rage, Burasi struck the inspector on the head with a stone, which led to the victim’s death. The stone used in the attack was later recovered from the crime scene.
Burasi has been arrested, and his auto has been seized. The investigation is underway.
