Premature death of 2 elephants in Odisha on a day

Bhubaneswar, January 25:With a threat to the biggest mammal on earth, as many as two tuskers were found dead in the Odisha forest on Saturday.

A young jumbos died in Cuttack while another died in the Sundargarh district, said sources.

The first incident came up in the morning from the Narasinghpur area in Cuttack district.The tusker was found dead in a garden close to a gas office at the Rangdaba village.

On being informed, Athagarh ACF Manoj Patra visited the spot and recovered the body for postmortem.

Investigations are underway to ascertain the reason behind the jumbo’s death. 

Similarly, a young tusker's carcass was found in the Ujjalpur Range, near Dikaruwabahal village forest in the Sundargarh district today. 

Primary investigation said, the elephant succumbed to injuries following a furious fight in the herd.

 According to the District Forest Officer (DFO), further investigation is underway to rule out the involvement of poachers or tusk peddlers.
