New Delhi, March 30: President Droupadi Murmu conveyed her warm greetings to citizens on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, which will be celebrated in India on Monday, describing the occasion as one to foster the spirit of empathy, compassion, and charity. "On this auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all Indians, both within the country and abroad, especially to my Muslim brothers and sisters," she said in a message, as per a communique from the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday.
Emphasizing that Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the fasting and prayers observed during the holy month of Ramzan, the President highlighted that the festival "strengthens the spirit of brotherhood, cooperation, and compassion." She further stated that the occasion promotes social unity and motivates the collective effort to build a peaceful, prosperous, and harmonious society. "Eid is a time to promote empathy, compassion, and charity," the President said.
"May this festival bring peace, progress, and happiness to everyone’s life, and inspire us to move forward with a positive attitude," she added.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also offered his greetings. "On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I extend my warm greetings to all the citizens of our nation," he said in his message. "Eid reminds us of the strength we draw from our cultural diversity and the common bonds that unite us. The true essence of this holy day goes beyond celebration; it embodies the constitutional values of unity, compassion, and mutual respect, which are the pillars of our diverse democracy."
"Let us embrace the profound spirit of renewal and collective harmony that this sacred occasion represents. May the spirit of Eid inspire us to reaffirm our commitment to the values that guide us and unite us as a resilient, remarkable nation," the Vice President concluded.
In Delhi and Lucknow, clerics confirmed the sighting of the moon on Sunday, signaling the end of Ramzan. Syed Shaban Bukhari, the Naib Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid, stated, "The moon of Shawwal-ul-Mukarram for Eid-ul-Fitr has been sighted in various states, including Assam, Manipur, Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. We announce that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Monday, March 31, 2025. I extend my heartfelt Eid Mubarak wishes to all of you."
