New Delhi, Feb 16: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended their condolences over the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station which claimed the lives of 18 people, including two children.
President Murmu expressed deep anguish about the loss of lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
“Deeply anguished to know about the loss of lives in a stampede at New Delhi Railway station. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for speedy recovery of those injured,” wrote the official handle of Rashtrapati Bhavan on ‘X’.
Similarly, PM Modi expressed deep grief over the incident and wrote, “Distressed by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured have a speedy recovery. The authorities are assisting all those who have been affected by this stampede,” on his official ‘X’ handle.
Notably, a tragic stampede took place at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday, claiming the lives of 18 people. The incident occurred around 10 pm, as thousands of devotees were making their way to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh 2025 festival, leading to intense overcrowding at the station.
The Railway Ministry has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased. Additionally, victims with serious injuries will receive Rs 2.5 lakh, while those with minor injuries will be given Rs 1 lakh.
