New Delhi, February 6: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has criticized the Central government over the recent deportation of more than 100 Indian nationals from the United States, who were allegedly residing there illegally. Drawing attention to the close relationship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump, Vadra questioned why PM Modi allowed the incident to unfold.

In a video shared by the All India Congress Committee, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “It was often said that President Trump and PM Modi were very good friends. So, why did PM Modi let this happen?” She further condemned the way the deportation was handled, emphasizing that India could have arranged its flight to bring the deportees back. “Couldn't we have sent our aircraft to bring them back? Is this how humans are treated—being sent back in handcuffs and shackles? The External Affairs Minister and the Prime Minister should answer,” she said.

In response to the deportation, opposition lawmakers staged a protest, demanding a discussion in Parliament on the issue. Congress MP from Amritsar, Gurujit Singh Aujla, joined the protest wearing handcuffs. Expressing his concern, Aujla said, "The way they were brought back was wrong. They were humiliated, with their hands and feet shackled. If the government already knew about the deportation, they should have arranged for a commercial flight to bring them home."

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav, and other leaders also participated in the protest, donning handcuffs to show their disapproval. The placards they carried read, “Humans, not prisoners.” They condemned the inhumane treatment of Indian citizens during their deportation from the US.

Today, Congress submitted an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, calling for an urgent discussion on the deportation of Indian nationals. The motion stated, "This House must urgently address the issue to prevent further dehumanization of our people and uphold the dignity of every Indian, both at home and abroad." The Lok Sabha was adjourned until 2 pm due to disruptions caused by the ruckus surrounding the issue.
