Bhubaneswar, Sept 12: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale on Wednesday urged Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to provide 27 per cent reservation for OBC students in higher education.
Speaking to media persons the Union Minister, who is on a two-day official visit to Odisha, said, “I will write to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi requesting him to provide 27 per cent reservation for OBC students in higher education”.
Several states across India have already reserved 27 per cent seat for OBC students in higher educational institutes. If this has not been implemented in Odisha, I will formally request the Chief Minister to address this issue, he stated.
The Union Minister also expressed concern over the rising number of atrocities against Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in Odisha and said he will discuss the issue with the state Governor and Chief Minister.
