Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Odisha office, has launched five booklets in the Santali (Ol Chik) language to promote financial literacy among the tribal population. Odisha's Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, unveiled the booklets at the Bali Jatra festival in Cuttack on Friday.
These booklets were created as part of the RBI's celebrations marking 90 years of its operations in India. In addition to this initiative, the central bank has also organized events such as quiz competitions for students to further its outreach efforts on financial education.
A senior RBI official explained that the bank's Bhubaneswar branch took the initiative to translate and print these five targeted booklets in the Santali language, specifically designed for the Santali-speaking community. The booklets cover a range of topics, including financial products and services, sound financial practices, digital banking, and consumer protection.
The content is tailored for various groups within the community, including school children, farmers, entrepreneurs, self-help groups, and senior citizens. The RBI aims to raise awareness about the importance of financial inclusion and literacy.
These booklets will not only be distributed in Odisha but also in other states with significant Santali-speaking populations, such as Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura, the official added.
