Bhubaneswar, Nov 9: In an odd incident, half-cremated body of a former MLA’s wife has been seized in Odisha’s Capital City Bhubaneswar on Friday.
Police has sent the body remnants of the deceased identified as Ashrukana Pradhan to the Capital Hospital for postmortem.
Sources said, the Kharavel Nagar Police in the afternoon seized former Braghmagiri Legislator Ajay Jena’s wife Ashrukana’s half-burnt body from the Satya Nagar crematorium, acting on the complaint of the deceased’s younger sister Monika Pradhan.
Monika in her complaint alleged that, Ashrukana(77) had been physically and mentally tortured by her sister-in-law Upasana Sarangi after the death of MLA Jena and his only son. Today Sarangi was cremating Ashrukala’s body hurriedly after brutally killing the elderly man, in a bid to accrue her ancestral assets.
On the other hand, Upasana who was present at the crematorium and set her mother-in-law in the pyre in absence of other kith and kin said that there is nothing foul behind the death.
“Ashrukala died of geriatric problem despite due care provided by me”, Upasana added.
A case has been registered in this connection. Investigation is underway. The postmortem report which is awaited, will unveil the mystery behind the death of the elderly woman, said the Kharavel Nagar police.
