Rourkela, Ap 16: The newly constructed bus stand near Birsa Chowk in Rourkela city is expected to get a new look soon. The new terminal will be designed to improve passenger experience. Business owners will also benefit from the new terminal through improved accessibility and potential new business opportunities.
The bus stand has rapidly become a crucial hub, serving over a hundred commuters daily who travel to and from various destinations. With the increasing number of passengers and the challenges faced by both travelers and local business owners, the authorities have decided to revamp the bus stand to address these growing concerns.
The reconstruction project will be undertaken through collaboration between Rourkela Smart City Limited (RSCL) and the Rourkela Development Authority (RDA). The new facility will be equipped with modern amenities, transforming it into a state-of-the-art bus terminal. Special attention will be given to meeting the needs of both passengers and business owners to create a balanced, efficient space.
A preliminary consultative meeting was held yesterday, chaired by Ashutosh Kulkarni, Executive Officer of Rourkela Smart City and Vice Chairman of the Rourkela Development Authority. The meeting included key stakeholders such as bus terminal operators, business owners from Fakir Mohan Market, and other concerned parties.
During the meeting, Kulkarni outlined the plans for the reconstruction of bus terminal and stressed the importance of creating a facility that benefits both commuters and local businesses. He explained that the new terminal would include commercial spaces, providing business owners with a sustainable way to continue their operations and support their livelihoods.
The proposed terminal will feature 36 bus bays and additional parking areas for long-distance buses. Kulkarni also mentioned that an additional parking facility for outstation buses will be developed at the existing RSPL site to ease congestion.
