New Delhi, November 21: Former Higher Education Secretary K Sanjay Murthy was sworn in as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India by President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday
K Sanjay Murthy, an IAS officer of the 1989 batch from the Andhra Pradesh cadre.
The announcement was made on Monday by President Droupadi Murmu.
The CAG, a constitutional authority empowered under Article 148, is tasked with auditing Union and state government departments, including railways, defense, and telecommunications, along with over 1500 public enterprises and various autonomous and local bodies. The office is instrumental in maintaining fiscal accountability and is supported by the Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IA&AD), comprising over 47,000 personnel.
Murthy has replaced Girish Chandra Murmu, who had been serving as the CAG since August 2020, following his tenure as the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
