Forty five crores of people are expected to gather in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, for the Mahakumbh 2025, the world's largest religious gathering. This event, which takes place once every 12 years, has massive security arrangements in place to ensure the safety of all pilgrims.
Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar has assured that comprehensive security measures are in place for Mahakumbh, which will be from January 13 to February 26. Following directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a robust security framework has been established around Prayagraj, including the key routes connecting the district to the neighboring districts and states.
The UP Police have implemented a multi-layered security system, described as an "impenetrable security chakravyuh," around Prayagraj to protect key points, including temples and akharas. It includes a circular security system with 102 checkpoints along seven critical routes, where both vehicles and individuals are subject to intense checking and frisking.
Over 1,000 police personnel have been deployed for the Mahakumbh, including 71 inspectors, 234 sub-inspectors, 645 constables, and 113 Home Guards/PRD (Prantiya Rakshak Dal) jawans. In addition five Vajra vehicles, 10 drones, and four anti-sabotage teams will patrol the area around the clock for additional security.
For the first time advanced technology is being utilized to enhance security. 2,700 AI (artificial intelligence) cameras have been installed around the Kumbh area, and 113 underwater drones will monitor the waterways.
To ensure preparedness, mock drills have been conducted in collaboration with various agencies, including the state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), National Security Guard (NSG), and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), alongside the UP Police.
This Mahakumbh 2025 is not only a significant religious event but a big logistical challenge for all the security forces engaged. The authorities have taken extensive measures to ensure the safety and security of all attendees.
