Prayagraj (UP), November 14: Responding to widespread student protests, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has announced that the preliminary exams will now be conducted in a single day, infoemred the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) on Thursday.
The decision came after a surge of protests outside the UPPSC office in Prayagraj, where numerous aspirants demanded a one-day, single-shift format for the Provincial Civil Service (PCS) and Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer (RO/ARO) exams. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took note of the students’ demands and instructed the Commission to coordinate with students to implement the changes for the 2024 PCS Preliminary Examination.
In response, UPPSC has formed a special committee to evaluate the logistics for the RO/ARO Preliminary Examination 2023, which will submit a detailed report on the proposed changes. Protestors, however, are calling for an official notice regarding the RO/ARO exam to be posted on the UPPSC website to confirm the changes. Until then, students have vowed to continue their protests.
On Thursday morning, students protesting for a single-shift format broke through barricades to reach the UPPSC office, where they voiced their demands. Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar stated that the PCS exam date will be announced soon.
