New Delhi, Mar 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat’s renowned Gir wildlife sanctuary to celebrate the World Wildlife Day 2025 today.
The theme of this year's ‘World Wildlife Day’ is “Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet” and it highlights the significance of sustainable funding and active community participation in conservation efforts.
As per the schedule, PM Modi will inaugurate the new veterinary hospital built to provide critical care for the Asiatic lions during his visit. Later, he is scheduled to return to Singh Sadan and chair a meeting of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL). In the meeting, national wildlife conservation issues will be discussed.
In a bid to reinforce gender inclusivity in conservation efforts, PM Modi is also scheduled to interact with women forest staff in Sasan.
Notably, Gujarat is home to the world's last remaining Asiatic lions and has made remarkable progress in protecting these endangered creatures and preserving the region's rich biodiversity. Today, Asiatic lions roam freely across 30,000 square kilometers, spanning 53 talukas in nine districts of the state.
The state government has also established a National Referral Centre for Wildlife across 20.24 hectares in Junagadh. Additionally, a high-tech wildlife monitoring center and a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital in Sasan have been set up to provide advanced care for these endangered species.
