Malkangiri, February 9: At least 12 Maoists and two security personnel were killed in a fierce gunfight took place in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Sunday, a senior police official said.
Two Jawan reportedly sustained critical injuries in the counter attack of the LWEs, sources said.
Bastar police said that search operation is yet underway in the region.
The encounter took place in the forests under the Indravati National Park area of Bijapur when a team of security personnel was carrying out an anti-Naxalite operation.
"As per preliminary information, 12 Naxalites were killed in the gunfight. Intermittent exchange of fire is still underway in the area and further details were awaited, said sources.
