Bhubaneswar, Jan 20: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has instructed the establishment of 20 additional cyber police stations across the state, aiming to ensure that each district has a fully operational cyber police station. This initiative is part of the state's efforts to combat the growing problem of cybercrime.

In 2024, approximately 2,633 cybercrime cases were reported in Odisha. Currently, 14 cyber police stations are functioning to address these crimes, and with the addition of 20 more stations, every district in the state will be equipped with a dedicated facility to handle cyber-related issues.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on Sunday evening, where he reviewed the state’s law and order situation. The meeting addressed several key challenges, including reducing road accidents, curbing cybercrime, and preventing the cultivation of ganja.

According to official sources, there are currently 2,198 traffic police officers working across Odisha. To further improve road safety, the Chief Minister directed the creation of 2,000 new posts for traffic management this year. He also emphasized the need for complete transparency in the recruitment process.

In addition, Majhi instructed the Police Commissioner to bolster night patrols and checking systems in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, with plans to extend similar measures to other urban areas across the state. He also directed the Director General of Police to prioritize security in Maoist-affected districts.

The Chief Minister praised the Odisha Police for their successful management of major events, including cyclone relief efforts, the DG and IG conference, Navy Day in Puri, and the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas in Bhubaneswar. He assured that the police force would be further strengthened by filling vacant positions in the coming days.

The meeting was attended by several senior officials, including Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Director General of Police Y.B. Khurania, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrat Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunj Bihari Dhal, and other top officers from the State Police.
