Bhubaneswar, Feb 14: The 61st birth anniversary of the late veteran Congress leader, Lalatendu Vidyadhar Mohapatra, fondly known as Lulu Mahapatra, was celebrated with great respect and admiration.
A series of events were organized to honor his legacy, including a memorial meeting and a mega blood donation camp, highlighting his influence on the people of Odisha and his unwavering commitment to social causes.
Mohapatra joined active politics as a student leader and got elected as Brahmagiri MLA for three consecutive terms from 1995 to 2009.
One of the most notable events was the blood donation camp organized by the AK Das Foundation on the premises of the Institute of Engineers in Bhubaneswar. Amiya Das, a social activist and close friend of Lalatendu Mahapatra, organised the event. The camp saw active participation from students and youth from different parts of the state, with more than 100 units of blood being collected, contributing to the noble cause of saving lives.
The memorial meeting, which was held in honour of Lulu Mohapatra, was graced by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Chief Minister, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who was the chief guest. Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan attended as the guest of honour. Other prominent attendees included Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh, Brahmagiri MLA and daughter of Lulu Mohapatra, Upasna Mohapatra, Bangiriposhi MLA Sanjali Murmu, Jagatsinghpur MLA Amarendra Das, and the renowned literary figure, social activist, and politician Saumya Ranjan Patnaik.
The memorial meeting witnessed heartfelt tributes from the dignitaries as they paid homage to the late leader. Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, along with the other guests, praised Lulu Mahapatra's visionary leadership and dedication to public service. Amiya Das and several other speakers shared their personal memories, highlighting Lulu's enduring impact as a role model for students and young people across the state.
