Ganjam, January 12: The Aska Cooperative Sugar Industries Ltd (ACSIL) in Odisha has increased sugarcane price by Rs 42 per quintal.
The ACSIL managing committee announced the revised price of sugarcane sourced from across the state, acting on the demand of the farmers.
According to the resolution in the committee meeting, the revised price of sugarcane per tonne has been fixed at Rs 3500.
Apart from the hike, the ACSIL authorities have resolved to bear the logistic cost of the farmers those transport sugarcane from their fields that’s beyond 10 kilometer far.
ACSIL Managing Director Sushant Kumar Panda said, “In view of boosting up sugarcane cultivation across the state the managing committee has fixed the price of cane at Rs 3,500 per tonne in consulting with the administration.”
Worth mentioning, the Ganjam district sugarcane growers association had demanded that the cane price be fixed at Rs 4,500 per tonne. Apart from it, they had appealed to the government to provide an additional input subsidy of Rs 1,000 per tonne.
