Chennai, April 13: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
The Act, passed by Parliament and signed into law on April 5, has faced widespread opposition from several political leaders and organisations, who argue it is discriminatory and infringes upon the rights of the Muslim community.
Others petitioning the court include AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Congress MPs Mohammad Jawed and Imran Pratapgarhi, AAP’s Amanatullah Khan, and RJD leaders. Organisations like the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and DMK have also joined the legal battle.
Meanwhile, intervention applications have been filed in the Supreme Court supporting the Act, claiming it aligns with the Constitution and enhances waqf property management.
