This follows a shallow earthquake of magnitude 4 that struck Delhi on Monday morning at around 5:36 am. The earthquake had a depth of just 5 km.
Notably, shallow earthquakes, which originate five or ten kilometers below the surface, are generally more destructive than those that occur deeper underground.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to stay calm and follow safety precautions.
Taking to his official ‘X’ handle, PM Modi wrote, “Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation.”
