Mumbai, Feb 3: Filmmaker Anurag Basu recently shared exciting news about the progress of Aashiqui 3, the highly anticipated third installment of the popular Aashiqui franchise, starring Kartik Aaryan in the lead role. Currently in the pre-production phase, Basu revealed that the shooting for the film will kick off in March.
“We haven’t started shooting yet. We will begin next month,” Basu shared. The film is being produced by Vishesh Films and T-Series, with details about the female lead still under wraps.
Aashiqui 3 marks Basu and Aaryan's first collaboration, and the film is expected to carry the legacy of the franchise forward. The original Aashiqui was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and released in 1990, launching the careers of Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal. The franchise saw a successful revival with Aashiqui 2 in 2013, directed by Mohit Suri and starring Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur, which became a major box-office hit.
In addition to Aashiqui 3, Anurag Basu is also working on Metro In Dino, the sequel to his 2007 film Life in a Metro. The anthology features a stellar ensemble cast, including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, and Konkona Sen Sharma. This project marks the second collaboration between Basu and Kapur, following their success in Ludo.
