New Delhi, February 9: Following Atishi's resignation as Delhi's Chief Minister, a group of newly elected BJP leaders paid a courtesy visit to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. Among the leaders who met Saxena at Raj Niwas, the official residence of the Delhi Lieutenant Governor, were Parvesh Verma, who won from the New Delhi Assembly seat, Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar, and Kailash Gahlot, the victor from the Bijwasan seat.

Kailash Gahlot told reporters, "I am here just for a courtesy meeting with the LG," while Arvinder Singh Lovely also stated, "It was just a courtesy meeting."

In the recent elections, BJP's Parvesh Verma defeated AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal by a margin of 4,089 votes, Arvinder Singh Lovely triumphed over AAP’s Naveen Chaudhary with a margin of 12,748 votes, and Kailash Gahlot won against AAP’s Surender Bhardwaj with a margin of 11,276 votes.

Earlier in the day, Atishi resigned from her position as Chief Minister following AAP's loss in the Delhi assembly elections. She submitted her resignation to Delhi LG Saxena at Raj Niwas on Sunday morning. Atishi, 43, had taken over as Chief Minister in September last year after Arvind Kejriwal stepped down, making her the third woman to hold the position, following Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.

AAP faced a significant defeat in the elections, securing only 22 seats, a dramatic decline from its previous tally of 62. In contrast, the BJP made a historic comeback, winning a commanding mandate and ousting AAP from power in Delhi after 27 years. Despite the overall defeat of AAP, Atishi managed to retain the Kalkaji seat, defeating BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri by 3,521 votes.

Atishi acknowledged the party's loss but vowed to continue fighting against the BJP. Her victory in Kalkaji was one of the few positive outcomes for AAP, as many senior leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, lost their seats. Meanwhile, Congress, which had hoped for a resurgence in Delhi, failed to secure any seats.
