Bhubaneswar/Bengaluru, Feb 12: In yet another instance that appears to be a rerun of the sensational Atul Subhash case, a rapper from Odisha’s Cuttack on Wednesday allegedly committed suicide in Bengaluru reportedly due to mental torture by his wife.
The deceased has been identified as Abhinav Singh, a resident of Kaligali area in Cuttack. He was an engineer by profession and known by his stage name ‘Juggernaut’. He allegedly died by consuming poison.
According to Abhinav's family members, he was being mentally tortured by his wife and was under mental distress.
Abhinav’s mother told the media that she calls him every day around 8 am before he leaves for the office. She mentioned that he had spoken to his father the previous night. Strangely, he had asked her to wake him up at 9 am instead of 8 am, as he had moved closer to his office. She started calling him from 8:15 am, but there was no answer. Assuming he might be running late for work, she asked her husband to contact his friend Tanmay, who lived nearby.
Tanmay, along with another friend, went to Abhinav’s place and knocked on the door. When there was no response, he climbed up to the balcony and discovered that Abhinav had consumed poison.
Speaking about Abhinav's rocky relationship with his wife, his mother revealed that they would often fight. She mentioned, "Abhinav had come home during the Puja break, but every weekend he would disappear without informing us. I once overheard him asking his wife to interact with us, but she was reluctant to do so. I stayed silent for almost nine months."
She further mentioned that in 2023, Abhinav's brother-in-law had approached his wife’s family seeking a mutual separation without legal complications.
Abhinav's family has filed a formal complaint with the Lalbagh police demanding a thorough investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, the police have handed over Abhinav's body to his family.
