Cuttack, Apr 1: The Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will be implemented in Odisha within the next two weeks, announced Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Tuesday.
CM Majhi made the announcement at a Odisha Dibasa function in Cuttack and stated that health scheme would cover around 3.52 crore people across the state.
This scheme will facilitate eligible beneficiaries with cashless treatment at 29,000 hospitals across the country. The coverage includes hospitals both within Odisha and outside the state, ensuring access to specialized care when needed.
The previous BJD government had refused to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the state. While the previous Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) covered only 900 hospitals, Ayushman Bharat will offer treatment at 29,000 hospitals nationwide, said CM Majhi.
CM Majhi claimed that the scheme will benefit economically weaker sections, rural communities and others who struggle to afford expensive medical care.
Notably, the government had initially planned to launch the scheme on April 1, alongside the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana, but the date was postponed.
However, Majhi did not specify the reason for the delay.
