Bhubaneswar, March 27: A special court in Balasore has sentenced Samarendra Malik to life imprisonment for murder. The verdict was delivered by Judge Biswajit Das on Thursday.
During the trial, the judge heard testimonies from 15 prosecution witnesses and reviewed 18 pieces of documentary evidence. In addition to the life sentence, Malik was fined Rs 5,000.
The murder took place in Pichhabania village, under the jurisdiction of the Nilagiri police station, Balasore where Samarendra Malik killed Baidhar Barisal. The motive behind the crime was a land dispute, which led to the brutal murder. The case was registered on July 8, 2022, under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 27 of the Arms Act.
Special Public Prosecutor Pranab Panda represented the prosecution, while Biranchi Sahoo served as the investigating officer in the case.
