New Delhi, February 9: N. Biren Singh stepped down as the Chief Minister of Manipur on Sunday, ahead of the upcoming Budget session of the state assembly.
Singh held a two-hour meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President J.P. Nadda in Delhi earlier today. Following this meeting, he submitted his resignation to the Governor. Reports suggest that the Governor has requested Singh to remain in office until a new government is formed.
The resignation comes amid growing pressure for Singh to step down, especially after ongoing ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023.
