Kolkata, April 13: The BJP staged a protest in Kolkata on Sunday, slamming the Mamata Banerjee-led government over recent communal violence in Murshidabad and the teacher recruitment scam.
Led by Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, the protest rally moved from College Square to Dharmatala.
Adhikari alleged rising Hindu-targeted violence, comparing the situation to the 2019 anti-CAA unrest. He questioned the brutal killings of Hargobind Das and his son, blaming state inaction.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Jyotirmay Singh Mahato urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to impose AFSPA in four Bengal districts, citing a Kashmir-like crisis.
Violence erupted in Murshidabad and Jangipur during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, leaving three dead. Following a Calcutta High Court directive, BSF troops have been deployed to assist the police.
