Bhubaneswar: Wintry days have made a debut in India. The minimum temperature in most parts of north and central India will see the mercury dropping to below 10 deg C.
The model forecasts hints at cold wave sweeping the north and central India from Nov 21. The minimum temperature will hover around 8-12 deg C for next 48 hours. The minimum temperature in Delhi, most parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh may record a spike thereafter in next 48 hours.
However, as per IMD and NCMRWF model forecasts, return of a more vigorous cold wave is predicted from Nov 27/28, when the minimum temperature in almost the whole of north India, central India and eastern Maharashtra and Gujarat will record minimum temperature between 8 -11 deg C, the model forecasts suggest.

An analysis of the weather models hints at cold wave sweeping half of Odisha (western, southern and Central districts) with the mercury plummeting to around 10 deg C or below at many places.
Amidst the dip in mercury, the twister forecast for the Capital city and Cuttack is come November 27-29, the maximum temperature in the twin cities will drop to around 24 deg C courtesy cloudy sky due to depression/deep depression close to Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coasts.
Due to cloudy sky, the minimum temperature in the twin cities will not plunge to 10/12 deg C, but a sharp drop in day time temperature by around 3-4 deg C and a minimum temperature of around 16 deg C will become enough to spread the chill in the air.
TAMIL NADU STARES AT DEEP DEPRESION?
The state of Tamil Nadu will be witnessing heavy rain from Nov 27 onwards. Model forecasts suggests the cyclone genesis of the low pressure area likely to be formed in south west Bay of Bengal on Nov 23. While majority of model forecasts see the system intensifying to depression, only the NOAA-NCEP model predict the system intensifying into a deep depression/cyclonic storm.
Under the influence of the system, the state of Tamil Nadu , including capital Chennai, may record incessant rains as the system may cross around Chennai on Nov 29/30 The whole of the eastcoast of Tamil Nadu will record rain.
Rain will lash the state from Tuticorin to Chennai. However, heavy rain will hit the region from Puddukotai to Chennai.
