Bhubaneswar, November 20: Dharmasala MLA Himanshu Sekhar Sahoo was reportedly attacked by miscreants in the Budha Ghata area of Jajpur district on Wednesday evening.
The attackers allegedly targeted Sahoo's SUV, smashing its front windshield. Following the incident, the MLA's supporters staged a road blockade, demanding immediate arrest of those involved.
Local police rushed to the scene and are working to restore order. Authorities are yet to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
This is not the first time Sahoo has faced security concerns. In late August, the legislator sought additional protection after an armed assault on his office staff at Jaraka. Miscreants reportedly fired blanks during that attack to intimidate staff, prompting Sahoo to file an FIR with the Dharmasala police.
Sahoo, who joined the BJP after winning as an Independent candidate in the recent elections, had expressed fears of retaliation from his opponents in a letter to the Jajpur Collector. He highlighted the ongoing threat to his safety and requested police protection for his office in Dharmasala and his residence in Bhubaneswar.
Police are investigating both incidents, but no arrests have been made yet. The recent attack has further raised concerns about the security of public representatives in the region.
