Chennai, November 20: In a shocking incident, a 39-year-old advocate was hacked to death in broad daylight near the Hosur court premises in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
The deceased, Advocate Kannan, was attacked with a sickle by a man identified as Anand.
According to the police, Anand was harboring anger and resentment after discovering an alleged affair between his wife and Kannan.
The shocking incident occurred in a high-security area like the court, raising alarm among lawyers, litigants, and the public.
A lawyer, speaking anonymously, said, “This has created panic among lawyers and others who visit the court premises.”
Adding to the horror, a 26-year-old government school teacher, M. Ramani, was killed earlier the same day in Thanjavur by her jilted lover inside a classroom, further intensifying concerns over public safety.
These violent incidents have drawn sharp criticism from the Opposition and civic groups, targeting the ruling DMK government. Opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) condemned Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who also oversees the Home portfolio. “Department-wise killings are happening in government premises. This reflects the deteriorating law and order situation,” he stated on X.
Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai echoed these concerns, highlighting the state’s escalating violence. “Tamil Nadu has turned into a lawless jungle raj under the DMK government. Immediate action is needed,” he remarked.
This spate of crimes, including the recent stabbing of an oncologist at a Chennai hospital and the daylight murder of BSP state President K. Armstrong, has heightened fears about the safety of public spaces.
