Kolkata, October 26: Cyclone Dana has led to four deaths in West Bengal, with three fatalities from electrocution on waterlogged streets across different regions since Friday night.

The cyclone initially made landfall in Dhamara, Odisha early Friday, intensifying rainfall in Bengal. Tragically, two deaths occurred in South 24 Parganas, while Kolkata and nearby Howrah reported one fatality each.

The torrential downpours that had persisted through Friday began to subside at midnight, bringing relief to the affected areas. According to the Kolkata Regional Meteorological Office, Cyclone Dana has now weakened to a depression in Northern Odisha, reducing rainfall intensity in Bengal.

Scattered showers are still anticipated in coastal areas through Saturday, with normal weather conditions expected by Saturday night.

Concerns remain over extensive crop damage from flooding, particularly affecting paddy and vegetable production in the coastal regions of East Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, West Midnapore, and North 24 Parganas.
