Bhubaneswar, October 25: At a time when Dana's landfall process has begun, the severe cyclonic Storm nomenclature as Dana is observed to be gusting towards land in Odisha’s Dhamra and the Bhitarkanika regions.
As per reports from the ground zero, from Dhamra in Bhadrak and Talachua in Kendrapara district, the wind speed suddenly picked up soon as the landfall of the Cyclone Dana began after the midnight on Thursday.
As per the reports, the wind speed increased atleast three fold while it was recorded to be 50-60 km/ hour in the day time.The sea was also found terrific with heightened tidal waves and roaring winds.
Similarly, the wind speed picked up at Talachua area in Kendrapara as the CycloneDana's landfall process reportedly began. The sea here was observed more violent than the evening while the wild waves were unprecedently hitting the shore almost after the midnight.
Apart from it, both Bhadrak and Kendrapara witnessed heavy to very heavy downpour due to the ensuing landfall process that almost began late at night today.
According to the IMD, the severe cyclonic storm “DANA” moving over northwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centred at 2330 hrs IST of yesterday, the 24th October, over the same region, near latitude 20.5° N and longitude 87.1°E, about 50 km east-northeast of Paradip (Odisha), 40 km south-southeast of Dhamara (Odisha) and 160 km southwest of Sagar Island (West Bengal).
It is very likely to move north-northwestwards and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamara (Odisha) during next 3 to 4 hours as a severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph.
Landfall process has commenced and the forward sector of the wall cloud region is entering into land. The landfall process would continue till today, the 25th October morning.
However, the system is yet under continuous and close surveillance of the Doppler Weather Radar at the Paradip Port to assess its further course of projection, informed the IMD Regional Center sources.
