Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: The Cyclone Dana has weakened into a "well-marked" lowpressure area and is likely to further weaken to become insignificant, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
Cyclone Dana hit the Odisha coast on Friday, uprooting trees, snapping power lines in several areas. The storm made landfall between Bhitarkanika and Dhamra in Odisha with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph.
In a post on X, IMD said, "The depression (remnant of severe cyclonic storm "DANA") over north Odisha moved slightly westwards during the past 6 hours and weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over the same region. It is likely to weaken further and become insignificant during the next 12 hours."
Restoration work is underway at full swing in Odisha after the cyclone. All emergency service wings of Odisha government are on high alert.
Notably, to accelerate the cyclone restoration work, the Odisha government has cancelled holidays of government officers on October 26 and 27.
Due to the impact of the Severe Cyclonic Storm “DANA”, the Disaster Management and other response activities need to be undertaken on top priority, said a senior official.
