Delhi Polls MCC Violation: Over 35,000 arrested, Seized Drugs, Cash, and Weapons

New Delhi, February 6: The Delhi Police have arrested more than 35,000 individuals and seized a significant amount of illicit materials during their crackdown to enforce the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) between January 7 and February 5, 2025. In total, 1,098 cases were registered for MCC violations.

Among the key seizures, police confiscated 475 unlicensed firearms, 534 cartridges, and arrested 496 individuals linked to these weapons. Additionally, they seized 114,699 litres of illegal liquor, leading to the arrest of 1,423 people involved in liquor-related offenses.

The authorities also intercepted 206.712 kg of drugs, valued at over Rs 77.9 crores, and seized 1,200 drug injections. A total of 179 individuals were apprehended for drug-related crimes. In terms of financial seizures, police recovered Rs 11,70,29,927 in cash, 0.850 kg of gold, and 37.396 kg of silver.

As part of preventive measures, Delhi Police arrested 35,020 individuals under various legal provisions and acts.

Meanwhile, exit polls conducted after voting on Wednesday showed varied predictions for the Delhi elections, with some projecting a BJP victory in 51-60 of the 70 assembly seats. Two other polls suggested an AAP win.

Delhi's electorate comprises 1,561,400 registered voters, including 837,617 males, 723,656 females, and 1,267 third-gender voters. The voter base also includes 239,905 first-time voters (aged 18-19), 109,368 senior citizens (85 and above), and 79,885 individuals with disabilities. Votes will be counted on February 8. AAP has been dominant in the last two Delhi assembly elections.
