Puri, April 13: In one of the rarest incidents in the Puri shrine on Saturday, an eagle was feared to snatch away a frayed part of the sacred flag of Lord Jagannath, set atop the temple.
The giant bird that is anticipated to peck away a tattered piece of the flag famous as the ‘Patitapabana Bana’, also triggered a thundering hurricane for moments during its peck, believed locals and the onlookers.
The unusual incident, sneak peeked and hosted by an enthusiast, augered a lot of speculations, after the scene went viral on social media platforms soon.
The coincidence of the carrion’s signature up, around the Patitapana Bana and a stormy-black wind all of a sudden that too its momentous fade-away, after the scavenging bird disappeared with the frayed flag, flying away towards the horizon, crossing over the sea, ‘the Mahodadhi’, for the devotees.
According to reports, the incident reportedly took place in Puri yesterday around 5 pm. While the sky was almost clear, a sudden Nor'wester triggered a storm. At that time, an eagle was spotted near the Paschima Dwara of the Jagannath Temple that later escalated to the Patitapabana Bana. Soon, it was found with an yellowish bit of fibre, alike the Patitapaban Bana’s torn bit for a couple of minutes despite a strong wind and thundering lightning.
Neither the Chinra Sevak (Servitor) who used to set the Patitapaban Bana atop, nor the authorized person of the Shree Jagannath Temple Admin (SJTA), has commented on the unforeseen incident. Thus, whether the pecked fibre was a part & parcel of the sacred Patitapabana Bana, or something alike is yet to be ascertained. However, some elderly visitots anticipate something wrong will happen with Odisha, as flying eagle or vulture here in the past supposedly resulted in pivotal issues for state and nation.
