Sambalpur, April 19: Dr. Girish Mohan Gupta, an octogerarian BARC scientist, has rightly proved that education is indeed a continuum.
84-year Dr. Gupta on Saturday acquired an MBA degree from a coveted institution, the India Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur, despite accolading as many as two PhD degrees, he earned earlier.
Dr. Gupta during the IIM Sambalpur’s annual convocation ceremony held today, received his MBA degree certificate from Dr. Pramod Kumar Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India, who graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Dr. Gupta who was scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) spent decades excelling on cutting-edge nuclear research contributing significantly to India's advancements in atomic science. Despite his busy work schedule he tied two PhD degrees to his career, out of his passion for higher studies before his superannuation. Meanwhile, he came to know about the specialized MBA in IIM Sambalpur, meant for working professionals irrespective of age. Dr. Gupta enrolled in the 2023 batch in distance education mode and attended physical classes regularly at IIM’s New Delhi study center.He successfully completed the course with a high score, competing with the fresher ones, and achieved his deemed MBA degree.
While acknowledging the MBA certificate amid scores of young achievers, Dr. Gupta said that he is having an un-ended appetite towards wisdom. He is keen to acquire a number of unconventional degrees more, during his lifetime.
“I am readying myself for the next PhD program in Management Studies, for which I am spending long hours at night studying books and journals, to clinch the qualifying entrance”, said the ambitious learner before the convocation.
