Kendrapara, Dec 26: A farmer from Odisha's Kendrapara district reportedly collapsed of heart stroke seeing his damaged paddy crop due to unseasonal rain.
The incident took place at Santhapura village under Derabish block in Kendrapara district on Wednesday.
The deceased paddy cropper has been identified as Bhabagrahi Mallik.
According to report, Mallik had grown crops on at least seven acres of land investing lakhs of rupees borrowed as hand loan. On Thursday, he went to his farmland to supervise the conditions of his paddy crops following showers of winter rain. However, he broke down seeing the ripe paddy lying in the rain water.
Following this, Mallik complained of severe chest pain. Family members immediately rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead by the doctor.
On being informed, ADM Kendrapara Nilu Mohapatra said that the Tehsildars have been asked to enquire and report,
Based on the field verification report, it will be submitted to the SRC for compensation against the crop loss, the ADM added.
Similarly another farmer in the Ganjam reportedly committed suicide for the crop loss caused by the recent unseasonal rain.
