Cuttack, Feb 5: A stampede-like situation unfolded near Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium this morning during the offline sale of tickets for the much-anticipated One Day International (ODI) clash between India and England.
According to reports, as cricket fans flooded the ticket counters to purchase the tickets, a stampede-like situation ensued. Subsequently, police swung into action to tackle the situation.
The offline tickets were made available for purchase at the counters of Barabati Stadium from 9 AM to 6 PM on February 5 and 6. Each person can buy up to two tickets by presenting a valid ID card.
Four ticket counters will facilitate the offline sale and Commissionerate Police has made elaborate security arrangements to avoid any untoward incidents. As many as 17 platoons of security forces have been deployed during the sale of tickets.
It is worth mentioning that the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) has made 24,692 tickets available for sale for the 44,574-capacity Barabati Stadium.
Reports indicate that by Tuesday evening, around 9,000 tickets had already been sold to OCA employees and institutions affiliated with the state cricket association. On February 2, 4,000 tickets were sold online, while the remaining 11,500+ tickets were made available for public sale offline over the next two days, starting today.
