Bhubaneswar, February 8: An FIR has been filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Jharsuguda district of Odisha for allegedly making an "anti-national" statement, according to a senior police officer on Saturday.
The complaint, which led to the FIR, was filed on February 5 by members of the BJP, its youth wing, RSS, and Bajrang Dal in Jharsuguda district. It was submitted to Himanshu Lal, IGP of Northern Range, and led to the registration of the FIR on Friday.
The FIR, lodged at the Jharsuguda police station (Case No. 31), accuses Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, under Sections 152 (criminalizing acts that threaten India's sovereignty, unity, and integrity) and 197(1)(d) (for spreading false or misleading information that endangers India's sovereignty, unity, integrity, or security) of the BNS, the officer confirmed.
“The statement of Rahul Gandhi has crossed the limits of freedom of speech. By declaring his fight against the Indian State itself, he has consciously incited subversive activities and rebellion among the populace. The activities have undermined the sovereignty and integrity of India,” the complainant alleged.
