New Delhi, February 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (8 February) thanked the people of Delhi for delivering a "resounding" and "historic" mandate to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Assembly elections.
With the BJP securing leads and wins in 47 seats, the party is well on its way to surpassing the 35-seat majority threshold in the 70-seat Delhi Assembly. This marks a significant moment as the BJP is set to regain power in the national capital after a gap of 27 years.
As of 3:15 pm, the BJP had won 25 seats and was leading in 23 others. In contrast, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had governed Delhi for a decade, is trailing with leads and wins in 22 seats, according to the Election Commission's data.
"Jana Shakti is paramount! Development prevails good governance triumphs. I humbly bow to the people of Delhi for this historic and resounding mandate to the BJP. We are honored and deeply grateful for these blessings," PM Modi expressed in a post on X.
He further added, "We assure the people of Delhi that we will leave no stone unturned in advancing the city, enhancing the quality of life, and ensuring Delhi plays a vital role in the journey of a Viksit Bharat."
Meanwhile, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal acknowledged the defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections of 2025 and congratulated the BJP for its overwhelming victory.
In a video message, Kejriwal said, "We accept the mandate of the people with great humility. I congratulate the BJP on their victory, and I hope they will fulfill all the promises for which the people have voted for them."
