Bhubaneswar, November 6: Former Bari MLA Sunanda Das, who recently resigned from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) last week, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday.
Her husband, Debendra Kumar Das, also joined the party in the presence of BJP state president Manmohan Samal and other senior leaders at the BJP's Bhubaneswar office.
Sunanda Das’s shift to the BJP follows her allegations against the BJD, asserting that bureaucratic interference influenced ticket distribution for the 2024 Odisha elections. Her accusations have sparked fresh debate on the internal workings of BJD and raised concerns about fairness within the party's selection process.
Sunanda Das won the Bari constituency seat in the 2019 elections as a BJD candidate. Her recent move signals a significant political shift in Jajpur district.
