Bhubaneswar, June 16: Former MP of Jajpur, Anadi Charan Das died today at the age of 88 years. He was elected from Jajpur Lok Sabha constituency five times.
His family members said that he was undergoing treatment at a Bhubaneswar-based private hospital.
He was first elected as MP in 1971 on a Congress ticket and later went on to win the seat for another four terms. He was last elected as MP in 1991 on a Janata Dal ticket.
Das participated in Sarvodaya Movement and held several positions including Chairman, Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and member of the Executive Committee, Janata Dal Parliamentary Party in his long political career.
His son Arjun Das who was also a Congress MLA from Jajpur was killed in a road accident on Kharasrota bridge in Jajpur district in February this year.
