Indian security forces have eliminated Altaf Lalli, a top commander of the banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), during a joint operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

New Delhi, Ap 26: Indian security forces have eliminated Altaf Lalli, a top commander of the banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), during a joint operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The action comes as part of the recently launched ‘Operation Justice’, initiated in response to the April 22 massacre in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people.

Acting on specific intelligence, a coordinated team of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out a targeted search in the Kolnar Ajas area of Bandipora. Upon encountering the terrorist, a fierce exchange of gunfire followed, culminating in the death of Lalli. Two police personnel were injured during the operation and are currently in stable condition.

The brutal attack in Pahalgam, which primarily targeted tourists, has been linked to the Resistance Front – a proxy outfit believed to operate under the LeT umbrella. The attack prompted a strong nationwide outcry and a series of swift retaliatory measures by the Indian government.

In the wake of the massacre, New Delhi took several diplomatic and strategic steps, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, revoking visas granted to Pakistani nationals, and ordering the expulsion of Pakistani diplomats.

Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi visited the Kashmir Valley soon after the incident to review the security situation on the ground. He reaffirmed India’s unwavering resolve to dismantle terror infrastructure and safeguard its citizens.

The neutralisation of Altaf Lalli is being seen as a significant blow to LeT’s operations in the region. Officials say the mission reflects India's broader counter-terrorism strategy, which aims to respond swiftly and decisively to threats, especially those that compromise civilian safety and national integrity.

‘Operation Justice’ is expected to continue with heightened vigilance across sensitive areas in Jammu and Kashmir. Security agencies remain on high alert as the region copes with the aftermath of the deadliest terror strike in recent times.

This high-profile elimination is viewed as a message to hostile elements that India’s response to terrorism will be resolute, immediate, and unforgiving.
