Bengaluru, March 17: K Ramachandra Rao, a senior officer holding the rank of DGP, was interrogated on Monday regarding his alleged connection to a gold smuggling case involving his stepdaughter, Kannada actress Ranya Rao, according to sources.
The investigating team, led by Additional Chief Secretary Gaurav Gupta, recorded his statement during the inquiry.
It is said that the investigation report is expected to be submitted to the Karnataka government within the next two days. The government had previously instructed the committee to finalize the report within a week.
Kannada actress Ranya Rao alias Harhsavardini Ranya, 33, who was arrested on March 3 at the Bengaluru airport for allegedly smuggling 14.2 kg of gold from Dubai, used the US passport of her associate and co-accused, Telugu actor Tarun Raj Konduru alias Virat Konduru, 30, to pass the gold through Dubai checks, revealed probe findings.
