Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Monday said that the government is planning to establish cold storage facilities in every block of the state.
Speaking to media persons, Patra said that efforts are underway to do more for farmers, especially in regions without marketplaces or mandis. In such regions, new market systems will be set up soon.
“We are working to establish marketplaces or mandis in regions where they aren’t available yet. It will facilitate farmers to sell their agricultural products. Our goal is to offer farmers a secure method for storing their surplus produce, with cold storage facilities planned for every block in the state. We are working to make this a reality as soon as possible,” said Patra.
Speaking about steps being taken to increase potato production, Patra said that “The state government is taking appropriate steps and the impact will be visible within the next one to two years.”
Notably, the Odisha government had previously announced a plan to invest Rs 252 crore over the next five years to revitalize cold storage facilities across the state.
This initiative aims to restore non-functional cold storages by providing financial support of up to Rs 1.5 crore for each defunct unit.Top of Form
