Bhubaneswar: Two big showmans with big ego have a clash that predates to their association with Amitabh Bachchan.
As per the film trivia, both the big directors of Hindi Cinema had a sort of box office rivalry. The trivia goes on say that that on Sharabhi’s success, Manmohan Desai had said, “Only a Sharabi can make a film Sharabi.”
Bang came the retort from Prakash Mehra. As per the trivia, Prakash Mehra said, “Only a Coolie can make a Coolie,” taking a jibe at Manmohan’s blockbuster Coolie.
HOW ANIL KAPOOR GAINS?
The tussle between Manmohan Desai and Prakash Mehre continued post Amitabh Bachchan, too.
As per the trivia goes, when Manmohan Desai signed Jackie Shroff for Allah Rakka, Prakash Mehra, as a sort of retort, signed Anil Kapoor for the Chameli Ki Shaadi.
The Chameli Ki Shaadi film completes its 39 years recently.
The trivia goes on to add that the signing of the film has come as a privilege for Anil Kapoor, as no new comer has ever got such a fabulous chance to work under big banners.
The big privilege for Anil Kapoor then has been that with him joining the camp of directors like Prakash Mehra who is known to have given all time blockbusters with Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor’s stock in the film industry suddenly went up, and many new directors queued up at Anil Kapoor’s doors.
As per reports, Prakash Mehra signed Anil Kapoor for the film only to counter arch rival Manmohan Desai. By doing so, Mehra wanted to show Manmohan Desai that he too could sign a hot newcomer.
The film Chameli Ki Shaadi is a comedy film directed by Basu Chatterjee starring Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh. Prakash Mehra had produced this film
AMRITA SINGH – ANIL KAPOOR FIGHT IN OPEN
In several interviews then, Amrita Singh openly bashed Anil Kapoor.
She stated: " What is Anil Kapoor ?
Amrita then added, “Anil Kapoor is a compromise for Amitabh Bachchan, and who wants a compromise when you can have the original.”
It needs mentioning that Amrita Singh had delivered a blockbuster Mard with Amitabh Bachchan in 1985. And Chameli Ki Shaadi was released in 1986.
Amrita slamming Anil Kapoor said:
“He is scared to work with me because I over shadowed him in Chameli Ki Shaadi. Being a calculating actor, my spontaneous reactions to his planned acting put him out of gear, he cannot pay a compliment or take competition.”
ANIL KAPOOR GROUSE
Anil Kapoor, however, stated that he knew something would go wrong with the film.
He said,
“Prakash Mehra should have directed the film himself. But Mehra did not want to associate his name as a director with a small film with no action. I knew it would neither be a Basu Chatterjee film nor a Prakash Mehra film. They were just from two different school of cinema.”
