Bhubaneswar: Under its plans envisaging a massive operation that has been designed to round up, detain, and deport the undocumented population en masse in USA, the Trump Administration has deported 104 Indians staying illegally in the country.
As the first batch of undocumented Indians staying in US has been landed in Amritsar via US military plane, the moot point has been that how many undocumented Indians were on the line of deportation to India?
The Centre for Migration Studies (CMS), New York has documented that USA has an estimated 10.35 million undocumented migrants. The CMS study has mentioned that 96% of the undocumented migrants are in labour force (means may be employed or seeking employment)
A country wise analysis of undocumented migrants by CMS reveals that India stands at number 4.

As per CMS, following are the top-10 contributors to illegal migrants in the USA.

COLOMBIA | 202,154 | 1.8% |
The CMS report says undocumented migrants residing illegally in the USA were from as many as 29 countries across the globe.
The report says while majority were from North, central and south America region totally over 7.7 mn, Asia accounts for over 1.7mn or 16.4% of the total.
Among Asians, Indians were the largest undocumented migrants.
TRUMP WILL DEPORT HOW MANY INDIANS?
As the crackdown on illegal migrants have been launched by the Donald Trump Administration, the data released by CMS clearly shows that a whopping over 6.93 lakh, undocumented Indians identified in USA will be deported to India in due course.
Of which over 4.46 lakh are speaking Hindi language, means they belong to Northern, Central, Eastern and Western India.
IS THIS FIRST DEPORTATION?
The answer has been ABSOLUTELY NO.
The deportation of undocumented Indians has started since the Biden Administration was on power seat of USA.
As per MoS External Affairs Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh, citing U.S. government data, told the Parliament that a total of 519 Indian nationals were deported to India between November 2023 and October 2024.
However, speaking to ANI, Congress MP and former MoS Shashi Tharoor had cited a bigger number.
As per Shashi Tharoor, under the Biden Administration, over 1,100 Indians were deported back to India last year.
MODI GOVT VIEW ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
Making the Modi govt’s stance clear on the mass deportation being done by the Trump Administration, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal recently said, "For Indians, not just in the United States but anywhere in the world, if they are Indian nationals, and they are overstaying or they are in a particular country without proper documentation, we will take them back, provided documents are shared with us so that we can verify their nationality that they are indeed Indians.”
He then added that if that happens to be the case, then we will take things forward. We will facilitate their return to India.
DEPORTATION TO CONTINUE, SAYS USA
Recently, amplifying Trump Administration’s zero tolerance stand against illegal immigrants, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the deportation flights were an effective way to stem the flow of illegal migration, which he described as destructive and destabilizing.
The USA vigour and rigour against the undcoumented population is evident from the folowing tweet.
USBP and partners successfully returned illegal aliens to India, marking the farthest deportation flight yet using military transport. This mission underscores our commitment to enforcing immigration laws and ensuring swift removals.
