Bhubaneswar, February 25: The Odisha Higher Education Department has called six additional officials from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar to appear before the high-level committee investigating the death of a Nepali student.

Notices have been issued to PK Pattnaik, Chief Proctor; Sanhita Mishra, Senior Hostel Superintendent; Smarika Pati, Assistant Director; Ipsita Satapathy, IC Head; Sidharth Ray, Administrative Officer; and another individual connected to the case.

The officials are required to appear before the committee on February 27.

The Odisha government established the high-level committee to investigate the death of Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepali student, which sparked widespread protests and public outrage over the alleged mistreatment of students by KIIT officials and staff.

The three-member inquiry committee, headed by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrata Sahu, is examining the circumstances surrounding the student’s suicide on February 16, the alleged misconduct of the institute’s administration, and the controversial decision to suspend certain students and shut down the institute in their regard.
