Konark, Jan 16: At least two people were killed while another two sustained grievous injuries after their car overturned and plunged into a pond in Konark late on Wednesday night, police said.
The deceased were identified as Sandeep Mahapatra, a resident of the Nimapada and Sanatan Senapati from the Dantuni region of West Bengal while the two injured have been identified as Manish Senapati and Papulu Parida from the Balipatana area and are being treated at the Gop Health Care Center.
Sources said, the car was traveling from Konark to Nimapada when it lost control and fell into the Pond near Konark, resulting in the death of two while two others sustained serious injuries.
After being spotted, the residents alerted the Champahari Fire Department.
Being informed, fire department officials reached the spot and rescued the victims.
The injured shifted to Gop Health Care Center. However, the two victims were declared dead by doctors.
The Konark police reached the site and recovered the car, which had submerged in water.
Further investigation is underway.
