Prayagraj (UP), Jan 19: Engineer Abhey Singh, popularly known as "IITian Baba" who went viral on social media at Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, was expelled from Juna Akhara on Saturday night following allegations of using abusive language against his Guru Mahant Someshwar Puri.
As per reports, Singh has been banned from entering the Akhara camp and its surroundings.
Discipline and devotion to one's Guru are fundamental principles of Sanyas. Without adhering to these values, one cannot truly be regarded as a Sanyasi, the Akhara emphasized.
“Abhey Singh’s actions violate the Guru-Shishya (master-disciple) tradition and the core principles of Sanyas. Disrespecting one’s Guru reflects a disregard for Sanatan Dharma and the Akhara’s values. Discipline holds the highest importance in Juna Akhara, and no one is exempt from it—not even me or anyone like Singh,” stated Mahant Hari Giri, Chief Patron of Juna Akhara.
The Chief Patron further emphasized that all members of the Akhara are required to adhere to strict discipline and clarified that Abhey Singh will remain barred from the Akhara until he learns to respect his Guru and adhere to its discipline.
Meanwhile, the 'IITian Baba' has refuted the allegations that he was ousted from Akhara and accused the seers at the Akhara of spreading rumors about him.
“They believe I’ve gained fame and might reveal something about them, so they’re spreading rumors that I’ve gone for secret meditation. Those claims are baseless,” said Singh, who has over three lakh followers on Instagram.
Singh drew controversy with a reel in which he referred to his father as "Hiranyakashyap" and his Guru as "Pagal" (mad) following a disagreement. This sparked widespread calls for action against him within the Akhara, culminating in his expulsion on Saturday night.
Earlier, Singh’s Guru had expelled him from the camp, but he refused to leave the fair and instead sought refuge in the camp of another saint.
It is worth mentioning that Singh (36) left his lucrative job and career in aerospace engineering after graduating from IIT-Bombay to become a saint.
He gained popularity at the fair this year after a viral interview with a news channel turned him into an overnight sensation. His story was extensively covered by major newspapers and TV channels.
