Khordha, Jan 14: The Makar Sankranti festival is being celebrated across Odisha with much pomp and grandeur.
Puri:
Special rituals like Uttaraya Jatra and Uttarayan Vandapana are held on this day at Puri Srimandir. Similarly, the Holy Trinity dons the Makar Chaurashi Besha. Makar Chaula, a special kind of sweet dish prepared with newly harvested rice, Jaggery, grated coconut, banana, chena, khua, various fruits, and milk is taken around the temple in a procession on this occasion, which is called Makar Bedha.
Khordha:
People in large numbers gathered at Atri's Hot water spring in Khorda district on Tuesday morning. It is believed that performing rituals and worship at the sacred Baba Hattakeshwar temple and searching for "Gua" from the pool during this day can help childless women conceive.
In addition to the temple rituals, devotees are also immersing themselves in the hot waters of spring, a practice believed to bring blessings and well-being. The atmosphere at Atri is filled with devotion and fervor as many worshippers come to participate in these sacred traditions.
Konark Temple:
People took a dip at Chandrabhaga beach in Konark and visited Sun Temple at Konark. Special pujas were also offered to the rising Sun at Chandrabhaga.
Bhubaneswar:
People made a beeline before Lord Lingaraj Temple to perform darshan and offer prayer this morning. Police officials made special security arrangements to allow devotees hassle-free entry into the temple.
Jagatsinghpur:
In Jagatsinghpur, devotees at the Somnath temple also participated in the morning prayers, with large crowds offering their prayers to Lord Somnath. Devotees from various regions visited the temple, paying their respects and participating in the Makar Chaula ceremony before returning home.
